ABOUT MANTA / BLANKET

“Blanket” (pt. Manta) is an artwork by the portuguese neo-expressionist artist Sara Seabra. This artwork symbolizes a patchwork blanket of pieces that make up a life, united by countless threads woven to the flavor of the waves of being. The blanket of being, composed of its various specificities and features, for its luminous and somber tones. A blanket of codes, laws and points through which life walks and is present. The appeal to emotions expressed with vibrancy and aggressiveness in a formal simplification between abstraction and figuration, which characterizes the artist’s style, stands out in this artwork.

“A blanket. A second skin that protects and warms us. A patchwork blanket, of pieces that make up a life, united by countless threads woven to the flavor of the waves of being. The blanket of being, composed of its various specificities and features, for its luminous and somber tones. A blanket of codes, laws and points through which life walks and is present. The blanket of all beings, composed of atoms and molecules, where life and death walk in parallel to the moment when the corner turns, and we find a perpendicular. A blanket where there are origins, beginnings, destinations and ends, where there is a purpose, which ripples with the flow of time, waiting to be found. A blanket of people, places, doubts, meetings, sharing, challenges and learning. This is the blanket of being. ” (Sara Seabra)
Sara Seabra began her artistic career as a self-taught artist, in which her training in International Relations at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra proved to be fundamental in the discovery of various artistic languages with expression on the identity and vision of the world. Also graduated in Classical Ballet by Imperial Classical Ballet, she brings rigor to her plastic qualities. She received two honorable mentions, the first referring to the José Estêvão Literary Prize (2014) and the second in the field of painting in the Aveiro Jovem Criador Contest (2019 edition). In recent years, she has dedicated herself more closely to the fine arts, being recognized for painting, photography embroidery and mixed techniques.
